Keiser University West Palm Beach campus graduate Courtney Mezzancello recently returned to campus to share some of the experiences she’s gained as a student and now a City of Delray Beach, Florida Crime Scene Investigator.

Always interested in science and public service, Mezzancello, who hails from a long line of family law enforcement and military members, discovered that the study of Forensic Investigations is an ideal focus that encompasses both interests. After relocating to Florida from New York City with her family in her senior year of high school, she shared that she originally felt out of place as she became acclimated to her new environment. Eventually learning of and enrolling in Keiser University’s West Palm Beach Campus Forensic Investigation program, she was grateful to delve into the curriculum and to gain insights from leaders in the field. “Keiser University has provided me with amazing knowledge and techniques to thrive in my career. I enjoyed that the professors worked in forensic science. They not only have the degree, but experience in the field,” said Mezzancello, who is currently responsible for documentation, collection, and preservation of crime scenes and evidence and is certified in 3D mapping and as a Field Training Officer.

Mezzancello reminds others who are contemplating the future to remain steadfast. “Even if you feel like you don’t belong, don’t stop because eventually, you will find your place. Just keep in mind your ‘place’ may be different than originally imagined. Follow your heart and dreams, and don’t be afraid to veer off the path to find yourself,” she said.

Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Investigations (Investigations Concentration) prepares students with competencies in the collection, preservation, and analysis of physical evidence for presentation in legal proceedings. The program provides students with the skills required to recognize relevant scientific information discoverable through forensic analysis of various types of physical evidence. Oral and written communications regarding the results of investigations and forensic analysis are also emphasized.

Keiser University is a private, independent, non-profit university serving nearly 20,000 students at 21 Florida campuses, online, and two international sites. Co-founded in 1977 by Chancellor Arthur Keiser, Ph.D., and Evelyn Keiser, Keiser University currently offers more than 100 degrees from associate to the doctoral level. Keiser University is a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and was ranked No. 1 in the U.S. in providing Social Mobility by U.S. News and World Report in 2023.
