Keiser University Port St. Lucie Campus students are enjoying the opportunity to browse a variety of items thanks to campus leaders and members of the Treasure Coast Food Bank.

The popular campus destination, fondly referred to as the Keiser Cares Closet, provides an extra measure of support for students as they browse professional attire suitable for interviews and their campus’ dress code policy provided by Keiser University staff and community neighbors as well as food and personal hygiene items courtesy of the Treasure Coast Food Bank.

“We engaged our campus staff and community members to donate gently used and new clothing items and food and had a tremendous outpouring of donations.  With the cost of food being so high and statistics showing many college students experiencing food insecurity, we wanted to create a shelf-stable food pantry to assist any of our students that may be struggling,” said Director of Student Services Melanie Mead. “Many of our students are in accelerated programs and do not work or work only part-time.  We wanted to provide resources to help them save money and focus on their studies. Some students do not own professional attire and the clothing closet allows them to start their professional wardrobe at no cost,” she said. Mead added that the Keiser Cares Closet was created with ‘an inviting boutique feel’ by herself and campus leaders, and the ongoing partnership with Treasure Coast Food Bank and its school pantry program has made the resource invaluable for students.
