Dr. Barbara Cooke holds a Ph.D. in Criminology and an MPhil in Criminological Research from the University of Cambridge Institute of Criminology. She is a subject matter expert in prison-based dog-training programs and altruism programs. Dr. Cooke's undergraduate degree is in Psychology and Dramatic Arts from the University of California Santa Barbara. Prior to moving into the field of criminal justice and criminology, Dr. Cooke earned an MA in Theatre from Royal Holloway, University of London. Dr. Vecchi has over 30 years of law enforcement experience. He is also a U.S. Army Veteran. He formerly served as Chief of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit and was a career FBI negotiator. In these positions, he gained extensive experience assessing and interacting with violent offenders with a focus on understanding their motivations and the meaning behind their behavior. Dr. Vecchi uses this knowledge and understanding of offender behavior to enhance his teaching, training, research, and consulting activities. Dr. Vecchi specializes in behavioral threat assessment, threat prevention and management, and threat response. Dr. Vecchi also provides expert witness consulting in targeted violence, police procedures, confirmation bias, negotiation, and behavioral analysis.
